Lockport Department of Youth and Recreation Programs
The Department of Youth and Recreation offers many programs and activities for both children and adults. Many of these are available free of charge, and run at various times throughout the year. Below you will find a listing of most of our scheduled activities. - Police Youth Community Relations Seminar
Age: Young Adults in Middle School and High School
Fee: Free
Season: Early Second Semester (Jan)
Located at NCCC. Offers education on a wide variety of topics such as Sex, Aids, eating disorders, and drug abuse.
- 3 V 3 Basketball Tournament
Age: 7-18
Fee: Free
Season: Summer (July)
There are 5 separate categories for girls and boys. It is a double elimination tournament.
- Street Hockey Program
Age: 7-12, 13-15
Fee: $7 per child
Season: Fall and Spring
It is run over 9 weeks; offers experience and a safe environment to compete for both boys and girls.
- Chess Club
Age: All ages
Fee: Free
Season: Year round
For beginners to experienced players! Learn different strategies from experienced players.
- Saturday Recreation Program
Age: All ages
Fee: Free
Season: September to December
A weekly program that consists of outside activities and will also include arts and crafts activities.
- Youth Council
Age: Middle and High School sudents
Fee: Free
Season: School Year
A community service program for students. The council assists others with various community activities, and promotes relations between the city and the youth.
- Halloween Party
Age: Geared towards ages 3-11
Fee: Free
Season: October 30th
It is held at the YMCA. Provides a big party for children. Festivities include crafts, games, and CANDY!
- Santa's Calling
Age: 3-7
Fee: Free
Season: December 13-16
Fun event for children, they get the opportunity to talk to Santa and tell him their wishes.
- Skate with Santa
Age: Pre-K through 5th grade
Fee: Free
Season: A Saturday in December
A holiday event for kids to skate, eat lunch and get a picture with Santa.
- Holiday Hues
Age: n/a
Fee: Free
Season: Judging takes place in mid December
The city's annual decorating contest. Any resident in the city of Lockport with a home is eligible.
- Youth Court
Age: High school students
Fee: n/a
Season: Year round
Students play all roles of a courtroom. Make decisions and plead cases, it is real and the judgments are final.
- RENT-A-KID
Age: 14-21
Fee: n/a
Season: Year round
An ongoing referral program for youths to attain part time employment. Provides service to the community by pairing them up with a responsible youth.
- Winter Fun Fest
Age: Families
Fee: Free
Season: First weekend in February
Family event featuring petting zoo, wagon rides, snow shoeing, ice hockey events, broomball, baby races and performances at the Taylor Theatre. Held at the Kenan Center,
433 Locust Street in
Lockport.
- Summer Recreation
Age: 7-15
Fee: Free
Season: Late June through mid July
Games, activities, crafts, field trips and special events. Parks are staffed from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Offered in eight local parks.
