REFUSE:
The Town of Lockport contracts Waste Management for refuse
and recycling for collections. Six units of garbage
contained in 30-gallon plastic bags or 30 gallon cans are
allowed per week. Trash and recyclables should be out to the
curbside by 6:00am on your collection day. Waste Management
will allow one large/bulky item per residence per week. They
will also pick up brush as long as it is
cut into 4ft. lengths, bundled, tied, no more than 50lbs.
(approximately one garbage can full) and it will be included
as part of your six units.
Additional recycling bins are available at
the Town Clerk's office at a fee of $8.00 each.
Orange Waste Management Tags for additional 30-gallon plastic
bags for over-limit curbside pickup are also available at
the Town Clerk's office at a fee of $1.00 each during regular
business hours.
Waste Management office hours are from Monday through Friday
8:00am to 4:30pm and their telephone number is 800.422.4040. The holiday schedule will be updated &
posted as warranted. If you have any questions, you can call
the Highway Department for more information at 716.439.9522.
BRUSH PICKUP:
Due to time and manpower size, brush pick up is scheduled
three (3) times per year. The dates are determined on a yearly
basis, residents will be advised of the schedule as soon as
possible. NO roots, stumps or limbs larger than 8" in
diameter. Brush must be piled neatly with cut end to the road.
Brush must be out BEFORE 7am the morning of scheduled pickups.
THERE WILL BE NO RETURN TRIPS TO PICK UP BRUSH.
Keep
In Mind:
Residents can also include brush in refuse collection by Waste
Management. It must be bundled, tied, cut in to 4ft. lengths
and no more than 50lbs in weight. Brush may also be placed
in regulation 30-gallon cans or 30-gallon plastic trash bags.
It will be included as part of your six unit allowance. For
more information, you may call 800.422.4040.
The Niagara
County Landfill and Recycling will also accept brush.
For more information you may call 716.434.6568.
RECYCLING:
Waste management will begin picking up resident's refuse and recyclables beginning February 18, 2008. There are no changes required in the way residents dispose of paper, glass, metal and plastics. The sole difference is in the way Waste Management employees separate the items - at its plant, instead of the curb. WM recycling trucks are packer trucks, just like the garbage trucks, but they're distinctly marked "Single Stream Recycling."
The Town is alerting residents who might be concerned to see crews dumping all contents of recycling bins into a single hopper. Modern Disposal used to separate recyclables at the curb, and now with our new contract with Waste Management, separation will take place at their "State of the art facility."
We are very excited to offer you another cost cutting success this year and continue to find ways to keep your fees as low as possible. The average home in the Town is paying $19.13 less today than they were in 2004 for services. For questions residents may contact Waste Management Customer services at 800-422-4040 or the Town at 716-439-9522. Residents should continue to place recycle bins at the curb on their schedules day and WM will take care of the rest.
