Economic Development
The Niagara Frontier, traditionally a major center for industry and commerce, has become significant for its range of moderate to light research-oriented manufacturing as well as heavy industrial. The U.S. and Canadian Free Trade Agreement has provided significant impact on our local business economy. The Town of Lockport puts you right in the heart of an area which continues to position itself as a global location for research and development in medical, manufacturing and light industrial technology.
One of the most unique advantages of the Town of Lockport IDA is its ability to offer a comprehensive package of benefits vital to business enterprises. These include:
- Inexpensive industrial energy from the NYS Power Authority
- An abundance of fresh water at low rates
- A vast pool of skilled and productive workers
- Many fine commercial banking facilities that actively promote industrial and commercial development in the region
- A diversified base of established industries, such as data centers, automotive, chemical, plastics, metals, and paper products
- No general Town tax - for over 25 years, the Town has imposed no local town tax for general local services
- Located within the hearts of both the U.S. and Canadian populations and industrial centers
Finally, the Town of Lockport IDA works closely with the Niagara County IDA, the Empire State Development Corporation, many local, state and federal agencies to provide comprehensive financial incentives for the prospective firms.
